TEAM
- Penthouse Design by James Carpenter Design Associates
- Interior Design by Rogers Marvel Architects
- Lighting System Design by Richard Renfro Design Group
Designed by James Carpenter Design Associates and interior design in collaboration with Rogers Marvel Architects, the Skyloft Penthouse is a singular glass-clad duplex residence that dissolves the boundaries between indoors and out.
The recessed cove lighting system, designed by Richard Renfrow Design Group (Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City) with architect Steven Holl, colludes with the wealth of natural light, playing upon a mix of reflective and warm natural surfaces, including walls of hand-troweled, museumquality plaster and white lacquered cabinets and honed bluestone counters in the kitchen.
Rogers Marvel Architects is a multidisciplinary practice of 50 architects, landscape architects, urban designers, preservationists, and product designers dedicated to critical design thinking in the public and private realms. Working on a diverse range of projects, from parks and public spaces to products through TRUCK product architecture, our practice combines innovative materials, spaces, and forms with our commitment to the continued viability of the communities in which we work. Our process uncovers essential qualities of existing sites to bring meaning to the final project. Our work pays particular attention to light, circulation and materiality.
Currently, Rogers Marvel Architects, along with West 8 from Rotterdam, has just won the international competition to redesign Governor's Island: an intriguing mix of natural and created landscapes to create a 40 acre World Park. In recent years Rogers Marvel Architects has designed public spaces in downtown New York City, most notably the New York Public Library SoHo Branch, 55 Water Street Plaza and the New York Stock Exchange Streetscapes + Security. RMA is currently designing a half-dozen multi-family housing projects throughout all 5 boroughs. As the recipient of numerous national, state, and city design awards, and as the winner of the 2006 AIA New York Chapter's highest honor, the Medal of Honor, RMA is recognized "For their steadfast commitment to design excellence on all scales ranging from furniture to building to planning and landscape."
